DANCE, DRESSES AND DRUMMING – ALL IN ONE DAY!

Thursday, 13th March 2008

A FUN taster day is being held to show how everyone can get involved in the Carnival at this year's Stockton International Riverside Festival (30 July - 3 August).

Stockton Council's Arts Development Team has teamed up with Adult Education Family Learning and Arc to bring about the 'Carnival in One Day' event being held at Arc on Saturday, 29 March from 10am until 4pm.

There will be opportunities to try out carnival skills and sign up for this year's Carnival on Saturday, 2 August.

On Saturday, 29 March a series of workshops will be held - you can create your own Carnival headdress to take away from 10am until noon. From noon until 2pm try your hand, or feet, dancing with Urban Kaos and learn how to dance in the street.

From 2 - 4pm you can make some noise at a drumming workshop with Rhythm Train.

Councillor Mary Womphrey, Stockton Council's Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: "The Carnival is a wonderful opportunity for people of all ages to get involved with SIRF. This one-day event will be a great chance for everyone to try their hand at a host of different carnival skills."

All the events are free for families to enjoy together. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

Places are limited so advance booking is essential. Contact Arc Box Office on (01642) 525199.
