Type: Village

Heighington is situated between Darlington and Shildon, near Newton Aycliffe. One of its most significant features is St Michael’s Church. It is also known for its four pubs, The Cumby Arms, Bay Horse, George And Dragon and The Dog Inn, which lies just outside of the village.

In 2006 Heighington beat out 11 other villages around the UK to become the BBC’s Perfect Village, reflecting the beauty and community spirit of the place.

From A1 (M) South, leave at junction 58 and follow signs for A68 to Bishop Auckland. At the round about take the 2nd exit and turn left after approximately a mile into Heighington village.
