The Cultural Olympiad is a four-year cultural celebration across the UK and in London from September 2008 until the end of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It will comprise of a raft of local and regional projects and events, large-scale “signature” projects and mandatory ceremonies.

Middlesbrough Live Site

The Paralympics Games Handover Ceremony, on Wednesday 17 September 2008, officially marks the start of the build-up to the 2012 Paralympic Games. Young people in schools, colleges and local authorities across the UK will lead celebrations on this day and will welcome the world to the UK,
Start of the Olympic Games in the UK - Seconds Out on 27 September is a boxing-dance partnership featuring local boxing clubs, Salsa dancers and skipping groups from local schools. It is a pilot for a larger scale collaboration between Glenn McCrory’s International School of Boxing and its Cuban coaches, Theatre Royal Newcastle, Darlington Borough Council, the Vamos Festival and a variety of dance organisations from the region.
